.22 - and my reason being that ammo manufacturers will pay more attention to .22 before .177 and that means the possibility of .22 sub 12 ammo always coming first. The size makes it easier to work with.
Barrel kits in .22 will I guess come before .177 as well.

i think it depends what you are going to be using the gun for .(i am assuming the gun will be sub 12flb).if its paper punching /target shooting the .177 has a flatter trajectory so may be a big enough reason to go for .177 ...ratting and rabbits .22 work well.. pidgins you have a lot more range with a .177 ..this was very noticeable when we was kids and we had BSA Meter and Diana G79 etc that are only about 8flb ..i was the only one with .177 which at ranges that would easily drop a pidgin the .22 would literally bounce off..of course the old argument .177 vs .22 has been raging for years

Hi, I have recently bought an impact mk2, but had already decided to buy a barrel kit. I bought it in.22 flavour and the barrel kit in .177 flavour, it didn't really matter which way round I bought them but I do have an Air Arms S510 in .177 so .22 seemed right.

I don't hunt but my reasoning for buying the barrel kit was that for the relatively small extra outlay I got two Impacts for nowhere near twice the price.

During this lockdown period I have been using the .177 for back garden plinking at reduced power and getting 6mill groups with a full 21 rounds and using very little air.

Small adjustments to the hammer spring take care of any changes in power. Wifey bought me the FX chrony for Christmas and that makes checking the power so easy.

If you don't want to go to the extra cost of adding a barrel kit then I would suggest .177 is the better all rounder and I am sure that statement will provoke a few arguments.

The FX guns are top of the purchase list right now, so I doubt you will find them any lower than RRP for a while. A few are filtering down to the second hand market if you are lucky enough to find one.

I bought mine from Ronnie Sunshines, Berkhampstead, who could not have been more helpful. A good RFD will make your choices easier.

Unfortunately my garden is tiny (about 30ft) so this was hardly a challenge. Having said that the first 7 or 8 pellets were through the same hole. I normally shoot at Ronnie Sunshines, they have a 20m indoor range over the shop.

I have FX's in 177 and 22 and one of the strange things is how flat the 22's shoot, theres barely any difference in point of impact between 10 yds and 40 yds, thats on the Dreamline Bullpup,Wildcat and Royale , they just seem laser straight
